About the Photographer
Heather Roberts is an award-winning artist, writer, videographer, editor, and published photographer located in the small town of Jourdanton, Texas. She began her career in October 2014 at just the age of 17 after her brother Stephen bought her a camera for her birthday. A fresh graduate out of high-school, she took a leap of faith and start taking family photos on her family’s 30 acre ranch. Her grandmother, Dorothy Ulcak, let her re-vamp her grandpa’s old barbeque house as her photo studio. It had not been used for 10 years since her grandfather, Charles Lee Ulcak, fell ill to a stroke, only later to pass away in 2015. Charles Lee was a huge lead runner in helping grow the small town of Jourdanton. Heather was a visionary just like her grandfather, and set-out to make sure she continued on his legacy; starting by capturing the beauty of its citizens. Only to later expand her business and move to downtown San Antonio, Texas, Heather dabbled into bigger projects, like luxury real-estate properties, minor league sports, weddings, fantasy photography, and landscapes. She says her most favorite thing to photograph is children. “Capturing a smile never goes out of style. That is what I always say.”
Now at 22, Heather says she enjoys more natural light photography versus a fancy studio, and likes candid images rather than staged. “I like to think people have a way of expressing themselves when nobody is watching. When you see the light in someone’s eyes, that is when you know you are capturing their soul. I always tell my clients to pretend I am an invisible ninja with superpowers to freeze time. That lightens the mood for both of us. “
Heather says she always hopes to leave a sense of magic with her customers after they recieve their images.
